Planning a website is something I feel as the most important portion when one wants to do a website for his company, or personal needs. However, I felt that there are still quite a number of people who do not know how to plan their website. Hence, this entry.
Planning a website is not exactly nuclear science. There is a certain way of planning a website. Many people or experts would have come up with their own way. The following is my proposed way.

First thing first. Domain Name Choosing. Well, choosing a domain name is not difficult. There are no quick and fast rules. Most people will choose a domain name that is after their company's name. ie. ABC Pte Ltd, will ask for abc.com. There are also people nowadays who are getting domain names that depicts their company's service. ie www.lovemycar.com.sg
The importance of Domain Name. Some people find that it is important as an easy domain name will allow users to find their website easier. To me, I find that a domain name is the most important factor other than your content. Just think about it, if your content is talking about security, your domain name cannot be called, breakthrough.com or breakthrough.net right? It is like choosing a name for your company. It has to be relevant to what you do.
After you have choosen your domain name, it is wise to think of how to protect your domain name. ie. www.sglocksmith.com is choosen, you might want to take www.sglocksmith.net, .biz etc to protect this domain name from your competitors.
If you are in a specific country, you might want to take on your country's domain name extension too. This is to make sure that you have the presence in your own country. Competitors are like wolves, they will pounce on your weakness as soon as you allow them. So start today. Get your domain name from www.namecheap.com or www.godaddy.com.
